Taltal
New work for ensemble players and video composed by Yoav Levy
Different and separate bodies are in a common space, bodies that may be still and unconscious. A person listens and observes them. The very presence and activity of the bodies in the shared space in close proximity to each other will create an interaction between them for the listener’s perception.
A room in which there are sounds emanating from a television, the noise of water being heated in a kettle and the sounds of a construction site emanating from the window – all of these are not aware of each other (or have consciousness at all) and of course do not “create” a direct interaction, but the listener will be able to identify many dramas throughout the listening process (sounds Noisy suddenly covering quiet sounds, very quiet sounds that are suddenly recognizable after a loud noise, synchronization and desynchronization of different vibration rhythms, and endless examples).
That person, if he chooses to listen to them in a musical way (as a concert situation calls for), will be able to switch between listening to the sources of the sounds separately and hearing them as a “harmony of noises”, and will shape the listening according to his character and listening habits, and thus he will actually be able to observe himself.
“Taltal” is a new work for a video ensemble of musicians, in which the ensemble is divided into four separate soloists, four independent subjects as much as possible within a common space and time.
